Book Spotlight: In Enemy Hands by Jaye Peaches #historical #spanking #romance

I'm excited to have the talented Jaye Peaches here today with an excerpt from her hot new release, In Enemy Hands. Take it away, Jaye...

Thank you, Sue, for hosting me today. I’m sharing an excerpt from my latest spanking romance book, In Enemy Hands. Hester has been up to mischief in an attempt to keep the servants from suspecting she is in love with her enemy, Daniel. To create a distraction she has stolen a few essential blacksmith tools.
Matthew leant against the doorway. “What are you going to do, captain?”
“What I have to do. Question her.” Daniel circled the kitchen table, hands on hips, eyes on his feet. He needed the farrier’s tools. Without his horse, he could not ride out again the next day and he had his orders. Leicester had fallen and the king was making north from Oxford. He would pass close and Daniel had been tasked with spying on the roads, looking out for Royalist reinforcements. Hester had to confess and tell him where she had put the tools.
“Good luck on that. She is a stubborn mare, I must say. Do you need help?”
Daniel spotted a slight smirk on his subordinate’s face. “No. When the day of reckoning comes, and those in authority hold me accountable for my acts during this abysmal war, then I alone will face the consequences. If I have to use force, then God help me, I shall do so with a sorry heart.” He waited to see if his bluff had fooled Matthew. They younger man patted Daniel’s arm, as if to comfort his endangered soul.
Yet again, Hester had brought commotion to the house. Regardless of her motives, he did need the tools back. If Hester had initiated one of her games of trickery, it was his duty to perform his side of the bargain. Once again, they would do battle and he would appear the tyrant and she, the feisty rebel.
Matthew stole away.
Hester skipped into the kitchen, the hem of her skirts rustling on the stone paving. “Captain, you are back.” She smiled. “You must be hungry. I should find you some food.”
“Later,” announced Daniel and he shut the inner kitchen door, then slid across the bolt.
She watched him, frozen to the spot, as he did the same with the outer door. He’d locked them in together. Immediately, her skin flushed pink and she ceased prattling about food. The window allowed in sufficient light, but due to the moat and orchard on the other side, they were not overlooked.
Daniel opened a drawer and rummaged about. He picked out a utensil and lay it on the old oak table. A long-handled wooden spoon used to stir sauces.
Hester stood mute, her hands clasped together, shaking.
From the cupboard, he chose the cheeseboard. A diamond-shaped wooden slab with a handle in one corner. He patted it on the palm of his hand. It seemed sturdy enough and heavy. He lay it next to the spoon. “What else, do you think?”
“What are you doing?” she whispered.
“I am to interrogate you, Mistress Cavell. There has been a robbery and I believe the primary suspect is here, in this room.” He ran his hand over the surface of the table, sweeping away the crumbs.
“What robbery?”
“Oh, you know.”
Hester shook her head. “I have been busy—”
“—stealing,” he capped. “Confess, Hester. Matthew is chomping at the bit to be in here and deal with you himself.” Her flushed features blanched and her lower lip quivered. It was unkind of him to threaten her with Matthew. He would never have permitted another man to touch her. He quickly placated her. “Rest assured, I have sent him away. It will be just me to deal with your obstinacy.”
Her eyes opened wide into moon shapes. “You would spank me?”
When the rest of her household flees the family estate during the English Civil War, Hester Cavell, a proud Royalist supporter, stays behind hoping to protect her home. Unfortunately for Hester, she quickly finds that she is no match for a troop of Parliamentarian dragoons, led by Captain Daniel Hasard. Once the dragoons take control of her house, Daniel lets Hester stay with her servants, but he warns her that he will punish her severely if she causes any trouble.
Despite Daniel’s warning, it isn’t long before Hester risks her safety and attempts to sabotage his troops, earning her a long, hard switching on her bare bottom. But as the weeks pass, she begins to realize that the man behind the enemy uniform is loving, intelligent, and kind, and she can’t help but grow more and more attracted to him. Daniel returns Hester’s affection, and while they remain enemies by day to protect her reputation, they soon become passionate lovers by night.
Not wanting the servants to guess at their games, Hester continues to make a pretence at mischief, and Daniel continues to punish her sternly. But when a servant at last finds out the truth of their relationship, will it bring an end to their newfound romance, or will Daniel cast aside politics and allegiances and ask for her hand in marriage?
Publisher’s Note: In Enemy Hands is an erotic novel that includes spankings, sexual scenes, anal play, elements of BDSM, and more. If such material offends you, please don’t buy this book.
